EGLD is the Mainnet Token of Elrond and this page refers to the new EGLD Token. Elrond is a new blockchain architecture, designed from scratch to bring a 1000-fold cumulative improvement in throughput and execution speed. eGLD is the native currency of the Elrond economy, preceded by ERD tokens. The eGLD ticker is an abbreviation for eGold, denoting the simplest, and most intuitively powerful metaphor of what the Elrond currency aims to become. Elrond’s goal is to be a high throughput, fast transaction speed and low transaction cost platform, allowing efficient and competitive dApp user experiences in real world use cases. Their secret formula lies on 3 main point which are, first, sharding to enable parallel processing. Second, secure Proof of Stake which establish secure environment, and combined with sharding, it is a great combo to create linear scalability to the network. And the third is, creating interoperability by creating a multilingual Meta VM.
